K. D. Sheppard is an author who draws inspiration from a life shaped by resilience and diverse experiences. Born in the small town of Danville, VA, on December 5, 1986, Sheppard was raised in challenging circumstances, being the middle child, having a sister 7 years older and twin brothers 7 years younger, in a family struggling with poverty. Despite hardships, these experiences have become a source of strength and inspiration for her writing.
During her teenage years, Sheppard's family faced adversity when a devastating house fire destroyed their 110-year-old farmhouse, leaving them with nothing just two weeks after Christmas. Her family was so poverty-stricken they were too poor for HUD to assist them. Despite the struggle, she graduated from Dan River High School in Ringgold, VA, in 2005.
Determined to build a brighter future, Sheppard earned diplomas in Graphic Imaging Technology (with Cum Laude honors) and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management with a specialization in Graphic Imaging from Danville Community College in 2007 and 2009, respectively.
A mother to two remarkable boys, Sheppard moved to Rupert, WV, after meeting the love of her life. She's held various roles, her favorite was working alongside her husband at a local hardwood sawmill, experiencing extreme temperatures and physical demands that would push and test the will of anyone.
While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information technology at Western Governors University, Sheppard embarked on her self-publishing journey, fueled by her love for writing and the creative arts.
A self-professed goofball with a heart that wears emotions openly, Sheppard finds solace in nature, the arts, and helping others. Her diverse interests span philosophy, psychology, astrology, and a deep passion for music, which she believes is a soulful experience. Exploring unknown roads and capturing forgotten moments through photography are among her treasured pastimes.
Through her writing, Sheppard aims to bring forth stories of resilience, hope, and the beauty found in life's overlooked corners.
"It’s the little things in life that truly matter.
Those little moments when no matter how bad the situation,
you have to find that little light… and smile."
